Santiago trades mainly with the US, Japan, China, South Korea, the Netherlands, Brazil, Italy, Mexico, and Argentina. They make processed foods, textiles, shoes, and clothes. Santiago is industrialized and trade-oriented. The government controls most of the activity in Chile. It retains unique architecture from the colonial days, but is a modern city in all regards.
